BALANCE




Have you ever loved something so much that all you can think about and dream about is that thing? Well for me that was basketball. I loved basketball! When I say I loved it, I mean If I could have played it everyday, several times a day, I would. Actually, that’s exactly what I did. All my friends knew where to find me if they needed me. I loved it so much that, I would rather play basketball than watch my favorite NBA team play game 7 in a Championship game. No exaggeration, I’m serious 😂!


I tell you these things to say, that I played basketball for years and had to stop because of injuries. I have a partially torn meniscus, a fully herniated L-5, and partially protruding T-4. I was still able to work out after all that happened, but nowhere near as much as I did when I played basketball. I used my injuries as an excuse for years to slack up on my cardio, which eventually caused me to gain about 45lbs over the next 3 years and go into a mild depressive state ,because I couldn’t play the game I loved so much. I continued to lift weights, but much heavier than I did while playing basketball. I noticed I was gaining more muscle mass, which was a good thing, but I also noticed that I had unwanted body fat and was more tired throughout the day. Years later, once I had my first born and stairs to climb everyday with him, I realized that I needed to make a change. The change was to pursue balance in my fitness regimen. I slowly started back adding 30 minutes of cardio in 2-3 per week and picked up the pace a little bit while doing my weight training workouts. I eventually lost 40 of the 45 pounds and currently feel like I can attempt playing a few games of basketball without hurting myself 😂!


On this day, I can truly say that having a fitness regimen that incorporates cardio, weight training, stretching, and healthier eating can and will bring balance to your life. It literally makes all of your life experiences better because you do not have to worry about not having enough energy or strength to do the things your heart desires the most. Now go get your own BALANCE! What are you waiting on!?
